Recipe Site Critiques
- delish
I like this recipe website becasue it is very editorial, fun, and easy to navigate. The page has so many places to start or "jump off from" if you don't know where to start or are just looking to browse.
- Food Network
Being such a recognized name, the Food Newtork website has an appeal to novice and advanced chefs. The site is easy to understand and pages are very accessible, listing all required ingredients, directions, etc clearly. Buttons make the page both engaging and interactive.
- HELLO FRESH
I love the simple aesthetic and intuative organization of this website. Buttons are only placed where needed and all images are clickable and bring you to a new page. There is clear navigation at the top of the home screen to help sort and bring you where you want to go.
Non-Recipe Site Inspiration
- Patagonia
While this is a more retial-oriented site, I love teh combination of text and images in this site. The large image grids are something I might be interested in exploring on my site. Food engages all of our senses, and large imagery might be important for conveying the taste or feeling of the recipe I chose without the ability to send smells or flavors through the screen.
- Noodles and Co.
This website is probably one of my favorite all time websites, although I have never eaten there. The fun playful illustrations, animations, and imagery all come together so beautifully. I love the font choice and how it compliments the round shape of their images of pasta bowls, and the more curved and flowy incons and illustrations. They have a narrow color palette but it works for their branding.
- Pentagram
Obviously Pentagram is a world-renowned design group, but their website is equally as stunning as their work. Not only do I love their visual design, their information design and orgnaization is equally as inspiring. They do a great job of balancing imagery, text, interactive, features, animation, color, and sound to communicate their work, but not in an overwhelming way. I hope to bring ideas of how to communicate information from their site to my recipe page.
